HomeWatch of Westfield was founded by Stephen Motyczka, a retired New Jersey State Trooper and 30 year Westfield resident. Steve’s entire career has been built on threat detection, protection, and situational awareness — skills that translate directly into keeping vacant homes safe, secure, and well cared for.

Bio Overview
Steve began his law enforcement career as a patrolman with the Westfield Police Department before joining the New Jersey State Police, where he ultimately served in one of the agency’s most sensitive and trusted positions. Over the years, he handled more than 15,000 first-responder and police-action calls, giving him the ability to read situations quickly, identify risks, and respond with precision.
He also served as a first responder to lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001, and continued his work in the days following as both a land-based and marine-based investigator. Those experiences shaped the vigilance and attention he applies to every home he watches.

MEET STEPHEN MOTYCZKA
Experience That Goes Far Beyond Traditional Home Watch
Stephen Motyczka is a retired New Jersey State Trooper with more than 30 years living in Westfield and decades of hands-on experience in public safety, threat detection, and protective services. His career began with the Westfield Police Department and progressed into one of the most sensitive positions within the New Jersey State Police.
As a first responder on 9/11 and an investigator in the aftermath, Steve supported multiple land and marine-based law enforcement missions and developed a deep understanding of situational awareness, security protocols, and high-pressure decision-making. Today, he applies that same mindset to protecting vacant homes, identifying risks early, and making sure homeowners return to a safe, well-maintained property.
